Our father loved taking us on bushwalks as children, one thing he would love to show us is how to suck the nectar from the banksias. He would look for the ripest ones at the top of the trees and pull them down for us to enjoy. Banksia nectar offered vital nectars that our ancestors would use for energy for themselves and the children. They can be taken straight from the flower or soaked in hot water and drunk as sweet tea. The Banksia is also associated with women's business, this painting draws on the feminine knowledge of Banksia for Gundungurra women.
